Monsune is the moniker of Scott Zhang, a Chinese-Canadian musician who slick and emotive productions from his Toronto bedroom. This is by no means the first time that we’ve featured a bedroom producer here at TMR and we’ll proudly continue this tradition so long as we keep discovering gems like this. ‘Outta My Mind’ is Monsune’s sophomore track, following incendiary debut ‘Nothing In Return’. As with the initial release, this new song is a honeyed slice of indie soul-pop pie served with a generous serving of Monsune’s rich RnB vocals and penchant for future-soul production. Showing of yet another skill, the artist takes to directoral role for the music video which tips a cap towards his Chinese-Canadian identity as the camera follows a waitress around a retro Chinese-themed bar, serving passive customers, fending off a drunken ex and finally revealing her true self at the close of the video. ‘Outta My Mind’ is a taste of what’s to come on the emerging artist’s debut Tradition EP, set for release on September 20th. - Hannah Thacker
