Mike Salta’s latest release, ‘Jolly Bear’ is a bouncy, groovy track dropped through Music For Dreams. The textural layers that open the piece are ambiguous; it’s equally likely to explode into a thumping house track as it is a relaxing, electronic work. As it happens, it does both. The jazzy, romantic sax work of Claus Behrens provides the expressive melodies of the piece’s first half, before giving way to twisting synth lines and a jumpy percussive accompaniment. As the piece is wrapped up, the saxophone returns, the texture thins, and the atmospheric ambience of the ambiguous introduction is re-established. -Dan Peeke
