MELLAH DEATH, PILLAGE, PLUNDER

Yesterday, super-talented South London-based songwriter Mellah revealed his buoyant yet ominously-titled new single 'Death, Pillage, Plunder'. Arriving alongside news of a headline show at London's Corsica Studios on the 7th of November as well as a perfectly executed live loop session, recorded in his own Little Legs studio in Peckham, the intricate offering pairs ascending xylophone parts with gentle claps, sliding guitar parts and stabby synthesizers. Explaining the deeper meaning of the track, Mellah said: “Death Pillage plunder is about Mauerbauertraurigkeit… I promise that’s a real word. I only discovered it after writing the song but its definition pretty much perfectly encapsulates what the song is about. Mauerbauertraurigkeit is the inexplicable urge to push people away, even close friends and family whom you love and who love you and the inability to distinguish between genuine affection and cheap politeness. It’s an incredibly destructive cycle that I have only recently realised I enact." Watch the session here now. -Holly Mullineaux
