LUCIANBLOMKAMP NOTHING

Electronic producer LUCIANBLOMKAMP has announced the first of three-part album due to be released over the course of a year, the first of which arrives this October. Ahead of the full release, the Melbourne-via-Cape Town artist introduces us to the sound he’s been working on over the past year. As Blomkamp states, this new one is “a rare occurrence for me as it’s completely a product of collaboration” between himself and fellow Melburnian Rromarin, the featured vocalist and co-writer of ‘Nothing’. He goes on to convey that “it’s also fitting that it’s the first track to be released in some time as there’s a really balanced dynamic between the sounds of my previous albums and what’s to come." It’s true, there is a noticeable progression from the gentle sparsity of his debut album Post Nature and from the pulsating indie-dance of 2015’s ‘From Afar’ and 2016’s ‘The Overman’. ‘Nothing’ beckons the listener in with a steel drum-esque refrain and Rromarin’s vapoury vocals, before immersing our ears into overtly-digitised synths, staccato ticks and fracturing percussion. This powerful piece of goth-electronica is a tantalising taste of what’s to come on LUCIANBLOMKAMP’s album Sick of What I Don’t Understand on October 13th via Different Recordings. - HT
