LOWLY STEPHEN

With the release date of Lowly's second album Hifalutin looming ever closer, the Danish dream-poppers have followed up 'baglaens' with another fascinating cut. Continuing in a similar, yet more complex, vein, 'stephen' is a throbbing slice of melancholic electronica, which sews together sharp, trip-hop beats with sparse, reversed guitars and an undulating bass sequence. Using a robotic-sounding harmonizer to provide depth to the vocals, 'stephen' is a gesture of appreciation to the geniuses of the world. The band explain, "This song was written on the day Stephen Hawking died in the contemplation and sadness of what happens to the world when so many genius cells turn off and leave us. Today Scott Walker died and the feeling of losing a valuable genius is back. We can only appreciate them and say thank you for inspiring." Hifalutin will arrive via Bella Union on the 13th of April. -Holly Mullineaux
