LOWLY PREPARE THE LAKE

Preceding their debut forthcoming LP Heba - due 10 February on Bella Union - hotly-tipped Danish quintet Lowly have unveiled a lush new track 'Prepare The Lake'. The evocative cut flutters along with a restless and inventive pace, Soffie Viemose’s supernatural soprano carrying the lyrics to a powerful summit, radiating pure emotion. Of the track the band explain, "'Prepare The Lake' is the oldest of the tracks on the album. We’d been playing it for quite some time live before recording it and the form sort of grew out of us during concerts, so perhaps it has more of live feel to it than the other songs on the album. The lyrics are inspired by Gertrude Stein’s poetry. She has a very intense way of giving words power because of their surprising or untraditional placement in a sentence. It gives them depth and colour and you can almost look at each individual word as a small art installation." It is a beautifully crafted song that points to a masterful full-length to follow, and undoubtedly Lowly's upcoming live shows will be magical experiences too. -G.O'B
