LIBBY PAPER

Libby Thompson is certainly a brooding enigma. The Aberdeen songstress’ bandcamp page showcases debut EP titled h(E)l(P), which although released last year, is extremely impressive for someone we know so little about. The absence of Facebook and Instagram links is oddly refreshing, and she feels like a map we want to decipher just so we can follow. 'Paper' is profound, utterly addictive and sexy in all its obtuseness and intricate production, with Thompson’s vocals enveloped in slickly soulful, rich textures. Similar in tone to Lapsley, this bloom of strong, emotionally wrought and powerful young female voices is admirable and liberating for 2016. These are minds that, for all their imagination and talent, are cryptic, dark and fearless in exploring their inner desires, demons and poisons. We must confess we're drawn in by this intriguing artist and we eagerly await her next move. -LB
