Following on from the release of his stunning debut, A Louder Silence, Leifur James has taken his compositional style to the next level, taking influence from a wide array of genres and styles, to form this artistic, progressive piece of electronic music. ‘Wurlitzer’ opens with an ambient piano which establishes a serene atmosphere heightened by electric keyboard improvisation. Soon, industrial assaults of noise begin to fill the texture and turn the track into a genuinely harrowing, emotionally-charged journey. Of the uniquely aggressive piece, James says "I was wanting to corrupt the mood of the album with something a bit intense and destructive. I guess there was an unusual balance there for creating something new but in a bit of a destructive mind-set". He pulls this ambition off perfectly, setting up a new path of experimentation that maintains the delightful tone that gave his first release such success, while forging a new musical direction that will split into many avenues of expression. -Dan Peeke
