LAZY DAY REAL FEEL

Out now via Weird Cool Records, Lazy Day’s ‘Real Feel’ is a punch-packing indie rocker with nods to to Julia Jacklin, Big Thief and a lemony twist of Bruce Springsteen. By their own admission, this single marks a substantial step up for the band as it’s the first single they’ve recorded in their own studio. While their surroundings may have changed, the core of the band have not; it’s still Tilly Scantlebury’s arresting voice up front, supported by stunning instrumentals courtesy of Liam Hoflay (guitar), Kris Lavin (bass) and Beni Evans (drums). All of this is brought together with solid songwriting and expressive lyrics, which pushes and pulls the listener with an emotional clout of Scantlebury’s fiery honesty. As the band’s founder confesses, “I find it scary how much control your past has over you and your future, so a lot of these lyrics deal with this fear of being dragged backwards. Ultimately though, this song feels like a reminder to myself to not let things get in the way of being happy, and to keep moving forwards." If the considerable grooves and riotous percussion have tempted you to throw some shapes, look to Lazy Day’s music video for some inspiration in which the block colour clad foursome bust of the best of their moves. Perhaps you could rehearse this very routine for when you inevitably go see the band on their upcoming UK tour. - Hannah Thacker [photo credit: Eleanor Crewes]
