KING PRINCESS TALIA

For all the timelessness of her music (King Princess’ debut track ‘1950’ harks longingly back towards good old fashioned ideas of romance) there’s an edge to the Brooklyn-dweller’s music that keeps things fresh. Though her newest release ‘Talia’ might seem like a uncomplicated doo-wop charged break-up banger on the surface, there’s more than meets the eye here, too. 'Talia, I hope you're happy anyway,' King Princess insists at one point; the quintessential voice of a narrator that’s returning to the straight and narrow after being unceremoniously dumped. And yet, by the time the chorus rolls around, she’s necking shots again just to bring the memories of an old love flooding back. Each marks another intoxicating relapse into grief; a reminder that loss doesn’t lend itself well to being precisely measured and contained. - El Hunt
