Kill J's 'Bullet' was one of our favourite indie releases of last year - a dark-pop smash packed with elastic basslines and a razor-sharp chorus, it put the Danish singer right in our crosshairs. It all went a bit quiet after the sweeping 'You Have Another Lover', but now Julie Aagaard is back on the unashamedly boisterous 'Cold Stone', which harks back to her teenage years with a flourish of chiming retro synths, punchy beats and chopped up vocal loops. It's far less brooding than her previous output, and Aagaard freely admits, "'Cold Stone' is my bubblegum track but pop isn't a crime." Damn straight. - DC
