Stripped back to a startlingly simplistic, yet evocative backdrop of backmasked samples, after-dark keys and gentle percussive taps by producer Jahaan Sweet, 'Tore Up' is an honest, heart-on-your-sleeve pbr&b break-up ballad in which Kehlani admits how hard she is finding it to cope without her estranged lover. "But I still pop one to feel a little better / About looking in the mirror / I still pour up to make it all easier / To get out of my feelings / I'm still tore up, and I don't want to OD on you."
