Having wooed us with 'Cool Dry Place' back in December, Texan songwriter and Keeled Scales signing Katy Kirby has revealed another characterful cut from her forthcoming debut album. Precisely navigating a labyrinth of intricately charming vocal melodies, 'Juniper' is a perfectly-executed piece of dynamic pop-rock coated in a distinctive country twang. Using natural imagery as a metaphor, Kirby explains: "This is a song about motherhood, mostly. It sometimes seems like there’s far more material written on how dads can be terrifying and awful, or everyone is just less surprised about it. I’m uncommonly open and close with my mom, (and she’s asked several times if it’s about her — if you’re reading this Lisa, I swear, it’s not!!), but I was trying to work out how many distinct ways that sort of dynamic can uniquely harm." Sharing it's title with the aforementioned lead single, Cool Dry Place will arrive on the 19th of February. -Holly Mullineaux
