Newcastle outfit Joy Atlas have cherrypicked all the best bits from the math rock and synth pop genres, merging them into their own brand of interesting pop. Shimmering with gentle distortion and packed with all manner of whirring effects, the joyous up tempo-ness of new single 'Altitude' is entirely infectious. The vocals of Beccy Owen soar over the top of the chaotic bed and although slightly out-of-focus through a vocoder, you can tell they are spectacular in pitch. All sorts of influences could be put to them, like a psychedelic turbo-charged Imogen Heap, but simply put, Joy Atlas are in a world of their own. - SJ
