Prepare for the smoothest of soul and R&B vibes right now, asJMSN shuts down the bullshit in new single ‘Talk Is Cheap’. The p-funk instrumentals sound like the opening scenes of a classic American cop show, midnight visuals drenched in orange lamplight and a pervading sense of mystery. That’s when JMSN steps out from the shadows, microphone in hand and golden vocal pouring forth - before we even hear from the Detroit singer, though, he’s introduced by ice-cool hype man Joey Fatts. Further back-up on this cinematic single is provided by Andrew Boyle (drums), Aaron Provisor (piano) and Nora Germain (strings), all of them seemingly coming together in polished synchronisation. A highlight on the track has to be JMSN’s R&B scream, which we promise will make those hairs on the back of your neck stand up - in a good way. ‘Talk Is Cheap’ is the second single of the year, following ‘So Badly’, and now we can really see JMSN’s next project, Velvety, shaping up for its September release. - Hannah Thacker
