‘Night On Earth’ - the new single from Jerkcurb, operates almost exclusively amidst the doom and gloom, but the South-London based songwriter (known to his friends as Jacob Read) seems to know precisely when to throw a major-key into the mix. It’s these swift, expertly thought out transitions from despair to glorious hope that make ‘Night On Earth’ so special. Setting the scene with some spectral synths, entwined with gorgeously reverb-laced guitar lines, the track then flirts with King Krule-esque indie, skipping between apocalyptic heartbreak - “it’s our last night on earth” - before quickly professing to his mysterious partner - “you’re the girl of my dreams”. Each and every lyrical turn partners up seamlessly with its accompanying chord progression, and if Jerkcurb’s got more like this up his sleeve, then he’s most definitely worth keeping an eye on. ‘Night On Earth’ is out on 7” vinyl (limited to 250 copies) via Handsome Dad on August 12th, so get your hands on it now, or risk missing out on a special, timeless release. -JC
