JAMAEL DEAN ỌṣUN (FEAT. SHARADA SHASHIDHAR)

22-year-old jazz prodigy Jamael Dean has released his debut album Primordial Waters. To mark the occasion, he's delivered 'Primordial Waters', a 7-minute visual directed by Eric Coleman containing four tracks from the album – 'Ọṣun', 'Lake Corcoran', 'Ba’Ra’Ka', and 'Galaxy in Leimert' – featuring Sharada Shashidhar and Mekala “Mickey” Session. Jamael and director Eric Coleman worked together to create symbolism in imagery interspersed with historical information on the ancestral significance of Leimert Park, Los Angeles' center of black experience and expression. The first track to appear on the film is 'Ọṣun', an immediately spell-binding track with metallic percussion that tingles the spine, atmospheric rain sounds and smooth keys. With a background in North and South Indian classical music, Sharada Shashidhar features on the song. She has a voice of lavender...calming in tone, she sings the most soothing of melodies. 'Ọṣun' is a short and heavenly snippet of music. Check it out here. -Ellie Rose-Davies
