JACK GRACE B4UGO

You’d be forgiven for mistaking the opening of Jack Grace’s new single ‘BE4UGO’ for a new Radiohead track. It’s deeply alternative, with his quivering falsetto crying out over a sparse, moody soundscape. Just after the one minute mark, however, the track drops into something quite gorgeous, with a jigsaw of different elements crescendoing to a deep and emotive chorus. Trained in both jazz and classical piano, the Australian producer has been making beats for artists including Ngaiire and Buoy for a while now, but it’s his solo material that has caught they eyes and ears of the industry. Speaking about how his training affects his writing, Grace says: “Jazz players really affected the attitude in which I approached songs, where the harmony never becomes stagnant. You almost have to sit forward for a second [to get it], to me, there’s so much beauty in that.” We can’t wait to see what this unusual talent has up his sleeve next. -HM
