JACK CONMAN CHEWING AT THE WASTE

Recently we heard Jack Conman’s single ‘Existential Crisis’, the first taste of his forthcoming album, and it would appear that that introspective theme continues with second LP track ‘Chewing At The Waste’. It’s beautifully raw and open; the majority of the track only sparsely lit by an electronic keyboard alongside Conman’s expressive voice. Every so often, a riffing electronic guitar, jazzy bass, or finger clicks come in, but for fear of distracting the listener from the young songwriter’s story, these elements pull away creating greater space for a sense of vulnerability and honesty. Each line is carefully placed by the 20-year-old musician, as though they’re either incredibly fragile or strenuously heavy. The last line is poignant and melancholy - “why didn’t you feel nothing? Maybe because I’m nothing” - one of those lyrics that you’ll turn over in your mind, reflecting on your own emotions. That’s part of Jack Conman’s charm - his ability to connect with the listener on a deeper level. Watch this space for more from his upcoming album, seventh sense libido. - Hannah Thacker
