IRIS GOLD GOLDMINE

Born in the UK, but raised in Scandinavia - flitting between Copenhagen, where she squatted above a theatre, the Folkteatret, and the autonomous commune, Christiania - vocalist Iris Gold's colourful upbringing has certainly enriched her sound with plenty of character. Iris moved to London, away from a cast of "nudists and freethinkers", and began writing songs infused with the hippy culture of her former life. The first of these compositions, titled, with tongue-in-cheek, 'Goldmine', feels like a cooling Californian breeze, blowing hazy trip-hop sounds in alongside crisp poppy hooks. An infectious and unique taste of what's to come from this enlightened new prospect. - DC
