HMLTD PROXY LOVE

London's HMLTD continue their reign as one of the most aesthetically-exciting and musically-unpredictable bands we've ever covered here at TMR. The sextet's wedding-themed video for their new banger 'Proxy Love' lives up to expectations in a mildly-disturbing visual ode to self-love. The band explain, "Our whole life, we have been taught to hate ourselves; to kneel to humility and bow to modesty. We have stooped so much that our backs have become crooked. Our posture dooms us to stare at the ground, and we have forgotten what colour the sky is. ‘Proxy Love’ is an anthem for self-love. To this world of Quasimodos, we say ‘No More!’ Stand on your desk, high above your cubicle so everyone can see. Look up past the ceiling tiles, into the infinite sky and scream: ‘I love myself! I do! I do! I do!’." Opening up with some frankly jarring, happy-hardcore-inspired synthesizers, 'Proxy Love' sees lead singer Henry Spychalski performing at his lyrical best. The second time round the anthemic, Adam Ant-y chorus 'Proxy Love' takes another unusual turn, diving into an epic Queen-esque harmony break before descending into a bombastic ending of unhinged guitar solos and crazed synthesizers. -Holly Mullineaux
