GREY CRIME

Purveyors of pop hits from both sides of the Atlantic, Grey and Skott, have joined forces in ‘Crime’, an electronic-pop smash of crystalline melodies, bombastic interludes and singalong moments. This combination is something that the music-making brothers accomplish time and time again, with recent examples being last year’s summer anthem ‘Starving’, featuring Hailee Steinfeld and Zedd, or 2017’s chart-topper ‘I Miss You’ featuring Bahari. Their latest collaboration came about when Kyle and Michael Trewartha went over to Sweden to work with Linnea Södahl, the songwriter behind Zara Larsson’s ‘Lush Life’, who showed Grey the topline for a song called ‘Crime’ and then recommended Skott for the vocals. The boys were clearly in awe of Skott’s talent, recalling that “Seeing her work firsthand in Sweden was really inspiring for us because of the attention to detail she has and the perfectionist mindset that we both share.” As we can hear, Skott’s voice soars throughout ‘Crime’, excelled by Grey’s vocoder technique which adds a layer of icy ethereality to the Scandinavian’s unique tone. Alongside the electronic wizardry of the Tweartha producers is also an acoustic guitar that adds a refreshing pop candidness and once again proves Grey’s talent and originality. - HT
