Swedish four-piece Francobollo are becoming rather well known for providing musical relief with their light-hearted tunes, but it’s their comedy value that’s caught our attention this time. Following up on the mildly gross humour in their ‘Kinky Lola’ video, which won’t allow you to think of a life-drawing class the same way again, the new one for ‘Wonderful’ follows the epic journey of romantic vengeance from the perspective of a ball of pubic hair. Yes, you did read that correctly. This surreal storyline is soundtracked by Francobollo’s breezy indie-rock style, which hints towards math-rock with the downbeat, disorderly drums and folk with the acoustic guitar interludes. To put it simply, it sounds wonderful, and perhaps that’s part of the reason you’ll find yourself so drawn into director Mad Ruffian’s imaginative tale of hair-versus-hair. If you’re drawing comparisons to Alt-J while listening to this, then that’s down to the involvement of producer Charlie Andrews, who credits past collaborators as Marika Hackman, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and of course Alt-J. Andrews also runs the label Square Leg Records through which Francobollo’s colourful EP, also titled Wonderful, will be released on November 18th. - HT
