FONTAINES D.C. BIG

Bursting into life with a hectic drum beat and rampant bass line, the storming opening track from Fontaines D.C.'s recently announced debut LP has every chance of becoming a reality. With front man Grian Chatten's unmistakeable half-spoken incantations crying out above the chaos, 'Big''s pseudo-ironic chorus 'my childhood was small, but I'm gonna be big' is both critical and foreboding. Starring Chatten's 11-year-old neighbour, the accompanying video exudes the naivety of childhood confidence that often evaporates as we get older, whilst the track's tiny duration directly contradicts its title. With their highly-anticipated Dan Carey-produced debut album Dogrel arriving via Partisan on the 12th of April, 'Big' is a statement of intent from a band that's ready to explode. -Holly Mullineaux
