FLYBEAR LIES

Following a trend set by young talents such as Sam Gallaitry and Bonzai, Flybear continues to push the boundaries of electronic music with ‘Lies’, the second release from his EP Night Hike. Stylistically, ‘Lies’ falls somewhere between future bass and instrumental R&B, with multiple layers of quirky sounds held together by a solid, funky groove. Instrumentally, the track uses a bizarre combination of pan pipes, harp, whining synths and steel drums, with the latter calling to mind Mura Masa’s highly successful ‘Love$ick’. What sets ‘Lies’ apart, however, is it has an innate and inescapable sense of playfulness to it – apparently also featuring Flybear’s Dad on guitar. Night Hike will be available later this month via Big Beat White Label (Atlantic). - HM
