FLORA HIBBERD

Listening to Flora Hibberd’s new single ‘In Violence’ is akin to sipping a deep, rich red wine by candlelight and the sun dips below the horizon. At first, the track feels fresh and light with healthy brush strokes of folk songwriting. However, as this impressive six minute wonder progresses, Hibberd’s poet soul begins to bear itself, and the track becomes wilder, more complex, violent even. The classic sound of her voice is seldom heard in today’s current music scenes; without argument, it is timeless. The Paris-based, East London-born has already gleamed comparison to the likes of PJ Harvey, Jason Molina and Cat Power with the release of ‘The Absentee’ earlier this year and we fully expect more apt comparison to arrive on the doorstep of ‘In Violence’. With an EP to fall in September via ClearLight Records/Declared Goods, we recommend staying close to the unique voice that is Flora Hibberd. - Hannah Thacker
