ELIZA SHADDAD ALWAYS

Ahead of her debut, Beatnik-released Run EP (out this Friday 18 March), Eliza Shaddad has unveiled 'Always', another stunning alt-pop-rock track that continues to point at a very bright future. The Sudanese/Scottish singer-songwriter comes from a deep artistic heritage, her great-great-grandfather was James Paterson, one of the Glasgow Boys - a group of artists challenging the style and subject of late Victorian Scottish painting, and it shows. This is probably the darkest of her cuts to date, adopting a Daughter-esque melancholy and an increasingly urgent, driving tone that empowers and is shrouded in gently haunting darkness, only emphasised further by her gorgeous, hushed vocal. With a sold out Sebright Arms show in the pipeline as part of a 19 date UK and European tour, 2016 looks set to be a pretty special year for this talented newcomer. -G.O'B
