Eddi Front has always been something of an enigma. The solo project of Brooklyn singer-songwriter Ivana Carrescia was born out of heartache and screamed melancholia in the most stunning of ways before disappearing for the best part of three years. The daughter of a linguist, the Eddi Front project began in 2012 and following a striking, entirely affecting Best Fit Recordings release (which included the gruesomely beautiful “Gigantic”, a track Bonobo included in his Late Night Tales compilation no less), she is back with a new look at her debut full-length Marina, due 4th March. “Prayer” is filled with everything Eddi Front does best: it’s gritty, haunting and yet romantic and alluring as crunching, heavily echoing picking provides simple accompaniment for her languid, cooing vocal. She woos the listener, whilst maintaining a mysterious level of unease, heightened by twanging moments of almost discordant, aggravated guitar. -G.O'B
