DIZZY JOSHUA

Canadian quartet Dizzy first popped up on our radar with their dream-pop delight ‘Swim’, and so we’re incredible happy to find this suburban band back in our lives this week with new song ‘Joshua’. Singer Katie Munshaw leaves no illusion as to the single’s context, and the ethereal synths introduce her crystalline, subtly-accented vocal as she sings “Joshua’s a gemini / he broke my heart.” It’s story of being all consumed in a doomed relationship, love unrequited, and when you’re ejected from it all, you find that you’ve lost your direction altogether. Munshaw’s fellow bandmates pay respects to the vocalist’s broken heart, maintaining a quiet, melting quality akin to Beach House, Men I Trust and Tei Shi. Speaking about the track, Munshaw describes ‘Joshua’ as ”a goodbye to someone who left my life unexpectedly. There's a constant buzzing in your entire body after a relationship ends without closure. At first it chatters through to your teeth and bones, but eventually it dwindles down to a soft humming in a secret hiding spot in your heart. Coping. This song is ‘Goodbye, and thank you. I hope you're well. This is what's happened since you disappeared on me.’” - Hannah Thacker Photo credit: Calm Elliott-Armstrong
