Thank goodness Deap Valley are back. Two years since their debut EP Sistrionix, Lindsay Troy and Julie Edwards have not only announced a new album (Femejism) but also a murderous track ‘Smile More’. With a no filler, all killer kind of attitude, ‘Smile More’ is a big middle finger up to those crappy conformist social norms. With tongue in cheek lyrics (“everybody’s trying to tell me what to do/ it makes me want to break some shit and stiff some glue”) and a simple but anthemic sound, Deap Valley are back to their old tricks but ten times louder, sassier and livelier. -JE
