DEAD NAKED HIPPIES GUILLOTINE

The first new track of the year from Leeds-based post-punk enthusiasts Dead Naked Hippies is a confident step forward for the rising three piece. 'Guillotine' opens with an innocently drunk-sounding guitar riff drifting above a primal, toms-heavy drum beat before ramping up the intensity for the louder, darker and much more abrasive chorus. Singer Lucy Jowett lulls you into a false sense of security with her initially soothing vocals, which eventually escalate into Savages' Jehnny Beth-esque howls that slice straight through the bullshit to reveal a deep-seated sense of pain and anxiety. Discussing the track the band explained, “Guillotine is an exploration of grief. It’s the fine line between wanting to retaliate to someone who has caused you hurt, versus choosing to cut out the dead weight they have created in your life.” -Holly Mullineaux
