CULROSS CLOSE FORGOTTEN ONES

The title track of the latest Culross Close LP, ‘Forgotten Ones’, is an ambient exploration of jazz from the London-based quintet. The album is split into two halves, with the first half approaching from an intelligent, brooding standpoint, and the second created for the dancefloor. This tune is taken from the first half, with the tight-knit bass and drums providing the perfect bed for the prominent keys and vocals to take centre stage. Crisp snares punch through the texture throughout, before a gentle piece of solo piano fades the track to silence. When competing with the likes of Snarky Puppy and upcoming bands like Lydian Collective, this track gives Culross Close a very real place in the game. -Dan Peeke
