CRYWOLF DRIP
We can’t get enough of off-kilter jam ‘DRIP’ from California’s Crywolf. Collaged from looped breaths, layered vocals, acoustic strings, xylophonic chimes, electronic beats and more, it’s the kind of track that keeps the listener on their metaphorical toes. It swerves; stops and starts; slows down and speeds up. ‘DRIP’ is frantic; pushing against the boundaries of delirium as multi-instrumentalist Justin Taylor Phillips exposes the frayed seams of his mind. The track comes with the announcement that Crywolf’s album widow [OBLIVIØN Pt. I] will be unleashed on March 22nd, and ‘DRIP’ introduces one of the essential messages of the upcoming record. As Phillips explains: "one of the themes of this album is the exploration of the shadow - the darker, more difficult aspects of the human psyche. People often think they have one unified “personality,” but the truth is that we are made up of up to a dozen different personalities that are only loosely tied together. We feel like we have so much control over our actions and personality characteristics, but often when we pay close attention and are honest with ourselves, we can see that we can’t actually control or even explain large parts of who we are. 'DRIP' is the my process of staring into my brain and being brutally honest about some of the really difficult aspects of what I see there. It might not be, but it’s uncomfortably real." We’re intrigued to say the least, although for now, we’re satisfied to hit repeat on ‘DRIP’ and recommend you do the same. - Hannah Thacker
