CHARTREUSE MIDNIGHT OIL

Taken from their upcoming, catchily titled Even Free Money Doesn’t Get Me Out Of Bed EP (due for a November 1st release), Chartreuse have dropped ‘Midnight Oil’. The track is a richly textured look at soul music, with country vibes and an atmospheric, jazzy sound that gives off a unique vibe. There are clear influences from Bon Iver and Radiohead scattered throughout, but it’s the sneaky but clear Hans Zimmer influence that really pushes this song further. On the track, the band say, “the person who worked behind the desk there used to tell us, 'you're burning the midnight oil!' and Mike stole that line for the chorus. At the time, we tried the track and didn't feel it necessarily fit with our other songs, so we let it breathe for a while. Later on, it soon fell into place and 'Midnight Oil' as you hear it now was completed. We are so proud of this song and are glad we found the right time record it.”. Be on the lookout for their upcoming UK live dates. - Dan Peeke
