CAPITAL X TEETH

There is something rather wonderful about hell-raising, intelligent electro-punk outfit Capital X hailing from the peaceful, pastoral landscape of Hampshire. After the release of their hook-laden mega-banger ‘Superleague’, the Winchester duo are back on the block with ‘Teeth’, another full-bodied slab of genre contortion and riotous synth work.  We get the impression that singer/songwriter Julz B has been fueling her latest single with a heavy diet of M.I.A. and Death Grips, washed down with a toxic chaser of PiL, as ‘Teeth’ serves up jittery, staccato synth stabs with a deadly fierce power vocal reminiscent of the aforementioned British/Sri Lankan rap goddess. The graphic novel-esque, animated world of Capital X (conceived by visual artist Ruby C) is equally potent, and the purpose behind the artwork mirrors the music. '‘Teeth'’s words are as much a call to action (“put your money where your mouth is”) as a cloaked political commentary (“words come from my teeth, it’s like a free speech”)' - and we’re happy to put our money on this badass twosome any day. -AO
