Electro-punk wizards Capital X are storming into your Friday like a thundersnow blizzard on speed with their turbo-powered new single ‘Diamond Hard’.  Similar to the hook-laden, glitchy ‘Teeth’, this latest cut from the Winchester duo plunges deep into a sea of dirty, throbbing ‘80’s synths, spitting out retro beats with razor-sharp precision. Devotees of early Depeche Mode and vintage arcade games eg Tron will feel right at home in Capital X’s idiosyncratic underworld, where hardcore, hip-hop and electro are totally cool to be mashed up into an unexpectedly eclectic banger. Julz B’s tough vocals are singularly mesmerising as the repetitive loop of ‘diamond hard, forever and ever’ swoons counterpoint to the punchy drums. The track was self-produced/mixed by the band, and Everything Everything & Bat For Lashes producer David Kosten gives it additional fire with some expansive mastering. -AO
