CALEB GILES GATHER

Bronx-based Saxophonist and rapper Caleb Giles has just dropped his second album Under The Shade – a mellow album that resembles 90’s jazz-inspired hip-hop such as Tribe Called Quest. Stand out track ‘Gather’ lies somewhere between an interlude and a song, at a sweet 49 seconds short. It opens up with underwater synth sounds, which rise like bubbles against the understated drum beat and dreamy electric piano; which dances with jazzy easiness. Philosophising about struggle and money, Caleb sings: "Wish I could hold a fucking job down, wish a dream didn’t cost a dollar, but is a dream still a dream if you rich?" whilst female vocalist Cleo Reed accompanies him by mirroring his melody an octave above. -Ellie Rose Davies
