BODY TYPE FREE TO AIR

Feeling fresh from a successful trip to Austin's legendary SXSW, Aussie outfit Body Type have shared a surrealist video for their breezy new single 'Free To Air'. Taken from their simply-titled second release, EP2 (out 3rd of May via Partisan), 'Free To Air' lures you into a false sense of security with its delicate, delay-drenched guitar intro, rippling languidly beneath Annabel Blackman's cool vocals before the drums offer an almost rude awakening around the 45 second mark. Quickly joined by bright lead guitar riffs and a buoyant, upbeat bass line, distant harmonies add texture to the chorus, as the lyrics paint a picture of society's increasing dependency on screen time. Blackman explains, "'Free To Air' is about an old neighbour whose life seemed to play out entirely in his lounge room in front of the TV, which he blasted day and night. My bedroom faced looking into his lounge room, so it was almost like we were waking up and watching the morning news together or having a TV dinner after work...it was definitely not that romantic in reality though. We invited the esteemed video artist & 10/10 person, Matt Griffin, to make a video for the song because he is a master manipulator of screens and could slice us into an assortment of scenes and onto bodies without needing us to be physically present, which is the perfect disembodied embodiment to accompany the song.” -Holly Mullineaux
