If you're a regular reader of music blogs you'll probably already know that we, alongside almost every other music journalist in the country, have fallen head over heels for black midi. Yesterday, the recent Rough Trade signings dropped another mind-blowing track, which arrived alongside news of their biggest headline show to date at Hackney's EartH on the 18th of June. Having already built a massive organic fanbase, 'crow's perch' is the band's first single on Spotify and with previous limited edition releases reaching some pretty astonishing prices on eBay, black midi are now ready to conquer the masses. Opening with a fat, fuzzed-out bass line, jazzy guitar chords trigger Geordie Greep's distinctive, idiosyncratic vocals before drummer Morgan Simpson lets loose on the kit and things get really interesting. Coming complete with an intriguing, glitchy video directed by Vilhjálmur Yngvi Hjálmarsson, 'crow's perch' is arguably black midi's most unhinged cut to date. Watch it here now. -Holly Mullineaux
