London trio Benin City encapsulate the euphoric feeling of walking into a club, the first precious moments of a night out, the early rumbles of bass lines and blinding strobe lights in ‘Take Me There’, the first track from their upcoming debut record. The hypnotic video for ‘Take Me There’ features Benin City’s three members - vocalists Joshua Idehen and Shanaz Dorsett plus multi-instrumentalist Tom Leaper - who each lose themselves in the metronomic beat and ‘90s dance electronics, possibly being drawn back to memories of their past as ravers, bar workers and musicians in London’s club culture. The band offered their own interpretation of ‘Take Me There’: “We always felt the album should start with something about that giddy anticipation when walking into a club for the first time - that feeling as you walk through the double door and bass fills your knees and everything is potential and everyone is interesting and dry ice and strobes are in the air.” Recently signed to Moshi Moshi, their first album is due next year. - HT
