With a magical voice that rouses even the most dormant of souls, we’re so glad that even after the demise of previous band’s The Mariner’s Children and Peggy Sue, singer Benedict Benjamin has chosen to strike out on his own. His new acoustic track ‘Had What You Had’ from new album Night Songs was written over a month of hardship where Benjamin was working nights whilst also suffering a broken heart. And with that pain bubbling underneath, his single is both aching and peaceful, as if he’s reached peak reflection. There are moments where his voices breaks with emotion and it's clear he's channeled his all into this material. With nu-folk having taken a backseat in recent years, we hope Benedict Benjamin will help bring it back! - SJ
