Following up on single ‘Do It Right’, released earlier this year, Ben Khan is back with another gorgeous tune and full details of the oncoming album. It’s still hard to believe that this will be the London producers debut record, but as that previous song title alludes to… Ben Khan is doing it right. The new track is called ‘Ruby’, and like the precious stone, this soulful creation shimmers and catches the light through a hazy, lo-fi production. True to style, the mainstay of the instrumentation here includes left-field synth effects, scales of bluesy electric guitar and Khan’s brooding falsetto. ‘Ruby’ is really unlike anything else that’s around right now - sure there’s elements of his contemporaries (Jamie xx, Clarence Clarity, Anil Sebastian etc.), but collectively his sound stands on its own.
