BATHE DEALER

We’d like to introduce you to the Brooklyn’s dreamy duo Bathe. Comprised of vocalist/songwriter Dev Hobdy and musician Corey Smith-West, this pair met at the University of Pennsylvania where they discovered their mutual love of eclectic music and complimenting talents. Shortly after meeting, Hobdy and Smith-West formed Bathe, a project which expresses an array of influences from RnB to hip-hop to lofi pop and more. Their latest song ‘Dealer’ is strikingly reminiscent of Blood Orange, but also newer names like McClenney and Aaron Taos. Putting comparisons aside, the track opens with a chic bass guitar before blooming into warm, hazy textures, intricate funkadelic strings, and Hobdy’s sultry voice. ‘Dealer’ is wonderfully paced. The funk lines drive each rhythmic chorus home. The stripped-back guitar and vocal moments provide space to consider Bathe’s offer. The rock’n’roll guitar riff finally allows this controlled track to let loose. ‘Dealer’ is the duo’s third single to date, and so if you like what you hear, go check out predecessors ‘Kimmi’ and ‘Sure Shot’. - Hannah Thacker
