Belgian alt-rockers Balthazar made many an appearance on TMR throughout 2018, and look here, the outfit fronted by charismatic songwriting duo Maarten Devoldere and Jinte Deprez is back already with another infectious groove. ‘I’m Never Gonna Let You Down Again’ is “a breakup song with a twist,” as Deprez explains; it’s the kind of striking honesty that we’ve come to expect from Balthazar. The songwriter further describes the track as “a groovy soul ode with a synthesizer, a chorus with a Bee Gee touch. It's shaking it off, wherever it stuck.” It’s over these soulful bass licks and pandering percussion that this duo lays down the truth that 'it’s not our time'. A hazy dose of home-truths to set the new year off and to whet our appetite for the fast approaching release of Balthazar’s new album Fever, out on January 25th. - Hannah Thacker
