Hailing from Antwerp, Balthazar are one of the biggest bands in Belgium and it’s fantastic to see their popularity growing in the UK too. Their last album, Thin Walls, was a triumph, but it’s also worth noting that the record was released in 2015 and therefore the five-piece have had plenty of time to evolve, craft, experiment and explore new areas of their sound. Listening to new single ‘Fever’, we’d say that’s exactly what they’ve done. It’s still an big-hitting indie stunner, but instead of rock and pop mainstays, now we’re dealing with funk and psychedelica. Perhaps informed by the band members' individual pursuits over the past few years; their sonic horizons have expanded. You may recognise the names Warhaus and J. Bernardt, which is actually the monikers for Balthazar’s central songwriters Maarten Devoldere and Jinte Deprez, respectively. This silky twilight jam is accompanied by road-trip music video directed by Athos Burez, and so too does it reflect the new adventures of Balthazar as they approach their fifth studio album with renewed vigour. - Hannah Thacker
