We have a little soft spot for Bailie hear at TMR, as you may have gathered from our previous reviews of her tracks ‘Unaware’ and ‘Rose Coloured Haze’. The Chicago-based singer, songwriter and bedroom producer is reaching into new sonic territory with her single ‘Not Your Type’. The song grapples with the harsh realisation that the person you’re emotionally and romantically invested in may not feel the same way as you do. Bailie’s self-awareness comes through in lines like, “I’ll stick around for you / If that’s what you ask of me to do / I'll hold back on showing you how I feel / If you can show me that this love is real.” The first minute and a half follows the pattern of languid synths and brooding vocals, however, after this point is where Bailie switches her style up. You may have got the hint from the pulsating beats that begin to creep in, transforming the track into a catchy synth-pop experimentation. Bailie flips the narrative from a girl pining over an uninterested boy, to one who celebrates that “I’m not your type.” We could all take note from Bailie. - Hannah Thacker
