Anzac Park has returned to our ears this year with a tune he describes himself as ‘a chilly, melancholic post-party anthem, driven by pensive synths and a beat that echoes a night out’ ‘The Afterparty’ creates an oddly chilling atmosphere through its combination of low fidelity beats and Park’s raw, exposed vocal loudly sitting at the front of the mix. He turns the jubilance of a night out on its head with lyrics like “dance to the sound of your friends crying alone”, really getting inside the listener with his thoughtful, relatable words. That isn’t to say the tune isn’t musically detailed though, and amongst the distant production we can hear the echoes of carefully crafted synths adding to the texture. This is certainly Park’s best work yet. - Dan Peeke
