The soulful, jazz influences Afonso finds creeping into his music are reflected in his latest track, ‘Golden Hour’. The tune is mellow and hauntingly beautiful; jazzy guitar chords pluck away at the bottom of the texture, while breathy backing vocals add a warm feeling that evokes the title of the release. The inspiration behind the piece lyrically comes from the singer’s desire to revert to a simpler, younger life in which all aspects of his personality balance out once more. By the time ‘Golden Hour’ concludes, it feels like we’ve been on a journey through the deepest recesses of retro-soul while exploring the limits of modern, exceptionally produced art music.
