LEX LOW BUILD ME UP

Since striking upon his current electro-R&B-pop sound almost a year ago with single 'Higher', Lex Low has grown as both a songwriter and producer; an evolution perhaps portrayed in new release 'Build Me Up'. As the 23-year-old musician explains, “'Build Me Up' draws upon the idea of rearranging yourself in a way that allows relationships to flourish. It's about realising those things that you need to adjust and asking the other person to help you as you go through the phases of rebuilding yourself." It's such an apt subject matter for an individual who has moved from London to Los Angeles, finding new influences, but also feeling that his usual foundations were sinking away. Starting from a base of reflexive synth and slow beats, 'Build Me Up' begins to rise with the aid of quickening tempos and hip-hop-influenced trap. Throughout, there's a sample imitating a water droplet to echo Lex Low's opening line, "drop of water, rehydrate me," thereby implying that it can sometimes be the simplest and smallest action that effects change. - HT
