JELANI BLACKMAN ONE MORE TIME

In the same vein as last month’s release ‘Not You’, West London tour-de-force Jelani Blackman serves up his bracing baritone in ‘One More Time’. With a stark backdrop, this year’s second single takes a step further into the shadows with minimalist beats, chilling trap and an ambient guitar that balances out this heavy track. As always, our attention is drawn to Blackman’s distinctive tone and passionate verse, “Is it this that you wanted? Just face it one more time. Is it this that you wanted? Just waiting all our lives.” There is a touch of sensitivity in the finishing verse, with the Londoner’s voice taking on a softer, caressing edge. However, that’s all too soon eclipsed by the out-of-step outro, which perhaps might be teasing the sound of Jelani Blackman’s next single. - HT
